Case Study 1: Development Process and Methodology
: A large networking company had problems defining and delivering new products. The Product Marketing and Engineering organizations were not cooperating and several groups within Engineering were in conflict. The organization was slow and unpredictable in product delivery.
Atlantica identified the need for a development process from requirements definition through maintenance that all organizations believed would result in products that met the company’s market and customer needs. Atlantica worked with Product Marketing and Engineering to define a process with clear responsibilities, deliverables, and actions. Atlantica rolled out the process throughout the organization.
: The process was utilized and significantly improved the performance of the product development organization. The process was so successful, that when the company was acquired, the acquiring company also adopted the process.
Case Study 2: Interim VP Engineering
: A startup company with a small in-house engineering team and outsourced development resources needed to develop a new portal platform. The new platform needed to be rapidly customizable, highly scaleable and easily deployed and operated. Delivery commitments had already made to customers and meeting them was critical to the ongoing success of the company. A search was initiated for a VP of Engineering but the company could not afford to lose 4 – 6 months of time in building the team and ensuring the success of the product.
: Atlantica provided an Interim VP of Engineering for several months. Atlantica established requirements and delivery schedule with the outsource partner, closely managed its deliverables, and coordinated its work with the efforts of the in-house team. Atlantica expanded the in-house team as per the budget, increasing the skill and capacity of the in-house team. Atlantica instituted deployment and operations procedures and worked with the IT department to deploy and maintain the first 10 customized deployments.
: The new platform was delivered and successfully put into production. A capable and expanded team was in place to take on new development efforts. A permanent VP of Engineering was hired and Atlantica facilitated the transition over a short period of time. All customer commitments were met.
Case Study 3: Establishing Offshore Capability
A company decided to expand its development team with a new offshore capability for both scalability and cost reasons. The offshore capability was expected to assume much of the development load for a new product.
Atlantica established and grew an offshore team of a development manager, development engineers, QA lead and QA engineers. Atlantica arranged for initial and ongoing domain, architecture and technology knowledge transfer. Atlantica worked with the offshore and US teams to determine a productive allocation of work between the teams and instituted design and code acceptance procedures.
The new offshore team contributed substantially to development and maintenance of several product releases and deployment of the product to multiple customers. The offshore team became an effective, scalable development capability for the company.
Case Study 4: Project Management
: A small, successful consulting company had more customer projects than they could manage. The company did not have a resource to oversee a critical new development project for a government client with promising ongoing business opportunities.
: Atlantica assumed ownership for the management of the project. Atlantica worked with the client to identify requirements and agree on a functional specification, acceptance criteria, and rollout plan. Atlantica created the development, documentation and training schedules and managed the development and quality assurance of the solution. Atlantica managed the client throughout the project and delivered the solution and training on time and on budget.
The client was delighted with the resulting solution and rolled it out to a large user community. The strong client/company relationship built throughout the project and the satisfaction with the end product led to follow-on business for the company.
